What is moral/character education?

Moral/character education is teaching children to be well rounded people. It goes beyond reading, writing, and ‘rithmatic to teaching morals, character, honesty, good manners, conflict resolution, etc (1). It can be done on its own or incorporated into academic lessons.

Why is moral/character education important to teach in schools?

Shaping well rounded students is important for their future. Having good morals/character will benefit students throughout their life. It will teach them skills they will need in school as well as once they get out into the work place. Moral students with good character will also help create a good school atmosphere where students work well together.
